Omar Group CEO raises over £5,000 for Wooden Spoon
Omar Group CEO, Dean Westmoreland, completed his marathon Dryathlon recently raising over £5,000 for Wooden Spoon, The Children’s Charity of Rugby.
Dean abstained from all alcohol from 12th April after Wooden Spoon’s St Georges Day lunch, until Ladies Day at Newmarket Races on 11th July, raising a total of £5,380. This was quite a test for Dean who is well known for enjoying a drink or two!

During his abstention, Dean endured a 10-day holiday in Dubai with his wife in 38ºC heat… and no cold beer; The World of Park & Leisure Homes Show at Stoneleigh where Omar Park & Leisure Homes won the coveted Park Home Of The Year award for their all new Heritage park home (Dean celebrated with an Evian), but probably the biggest feat and Dean’s least favourite, was the Long Eaton Rugby Club, Annual Rugby Tour with 48 inebriated aficionados… and Dean!
Founded in 1983, Wooden Spoon was set up to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in need. Wooden Spoon is one of the largest funders of respite and medical treatment centres; sensory enhancement therapeutic facilities; specialist playgrounds; sports activity areas and community-based programmes in the UK. The charity is honored to have HRH The Princess Royal as Patron and in 2011 Wooden Spoon became the first charity to receive the International Rugby Board's Spirit of Rugby Award.
The money raised will all go (without deductions), into projects organised by the Leicestershire Wooden Spoon Committee for disadvantaged and disabled children. As a long-standing member of the Committee, Dean is delighted to have exceeded his target of £5,000 and has expressed thanks to family, friends and colleagues for their generous sponsorship. A number of Omar Group’s park home and lodge customers also supported this worthy cause, with a special mention in particular to Henry Simmons of Braintree Park and Bobby Bull of Regency and Park Life Group.
