Omar employee helps African village in self-sustainability project

A member of Omar’s Facilities Team, Jason Smith, is soon to embark on a life changing experience, through his church, The Harvest Centre, Brandon, working with Care for Kuffu; a charity whose vision is to create self-sustainable villages in the most rural and deprived parts of Uganda, Africa.

Care for Kuffu is a UK based charity who work through a local Ugandan charity to transform previously under developed communities, into self-sufficient, thriving micro-economies. 

In July, Jason will travel to Kuffu Village in Kampala, Uganda, where as part of a larger project to help the community become self-sufficient, he will be helping to establish a piggery. Jason will be living and working alongside the community for two weeks where he will be sourcing materials, building the piggery, through to buying livestock.

Jason has already raised over £1,000 in sponsorship which has covered the cost of establishing the piggery; the extra money raised will go towards much needed medical supplies for the village.  Jason is also taking with him toothbrushes, t-shirts and underwear for the children.

Jason commented: “I’ve been going to The Harvest Centre for a couple of years now; the church helped me to get my life back on track through a difficult time and has been a real inspiration for me through their missionary work. Getting into the project in Kuffu can’t come soon enough for me; it’s a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to peoples lives out there and I’m proud to be part of it.  I’ve been really taken back by the support and generosity of the company, colleagues and friends who have not just helped towards covering the cost of the project, but have also helped to raise additional funds for medical supplies.”
